EU - Proposes to Amend the Limits for PFOS and Remove the Exemptions
Regulation (EU) 2019/1021 implements the EU`s commitments under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) and its derivatives are listed in Annex I to Regulation (EU) 2019/1021. The public consultation is open 4 weeks until January 1, 2024.
New ISO Method for Microbiological Testing of Toys Containing Water
With toys containing water, there is always a risk of microbial contamination during production or use. The reasons for this is the water content in the product, which is essential for microbial growth, ingredients that are food for microbes, constant use (introduction of microorganisms) and use and storage at room temperature.
With this in mind, the Technical Committee ISO / TC 181, safety of toys, published an international standard on the microbiological safety of toys (ISO 8124-12:2023-08; Safety of toys - Part 12: Microbiological safety) for the first time in August 2023.
UK - PFHxS Restriction Adopted
UK adopted the perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS) restriction and enacted on 16 November which is following the EU POP requirements.
1. ≤ 0.025 mg/kg by weight of PFHxS including its salts in a substance, mixture or article
2. ≤ 1 mg/kg in total of one or a combination of PFHxS-related compounds in a substance, mixture or article
As usual, the Regulations is only applicable for the whole UK except Northern Ireland.
EU - Exemptions on the Use of Cadmium in Quantum Dots in LED Lighting and Displays
The EU Commission has assessed three exemptions requests on the use of cadmium in quantum dots in LED lighting and displays. The draft act is open for feedback for 4 weeks until January 15, 2024.
